666 - Is the Devil Messing with Me?

by WCB

I provide the content for four blogs. Part of my routine is to check my traffic daily. There are lots of reasons I do this but they are beyond the scope of this post.

The combined traffic for my blogs is also way down. Again, beyond the scope of this post.

Well, then what is the scope of this post?

Yesterday, I received 666 page views at one of my blogs.

Lots and lots of people are afraid of the number 666. Christians, too. It shows up in the book of Revelation as representing the devil.

Not long ago I started writing a series - Lessons from the Good Book at one of my blogs. And, don’t you know it, not long after I began writing that series, the bottom suddenly dropped out of the daily page views on all my blogs. This morning I mentioned that old snake in my series on the Good Book. After which I checked traffic and found the number 666 in my counter for the day, for the one blog where I write those Lessons from the Good Book.

Whoa!

Am I concerned that there might be a connection? Is this an omen? A sign? A Satan moment (let the reader understand)?good.book.jpg

Not even a little bit. Not even a little little bit.

I am confident that the devil has many more important matters to attend to than to be messing with me and my tiny presence in the blogosphere.

I am not so full of myself to think that slimy over-sized worm would take time out to fluster, confuse or challenge me and my faith.

Besides, he’d be wasting his time on me.

I have the Good Book to fight with. The devil doesn’t stand a chance.

So, what do I make of that 666 showing up in my counter at this time and after these recent turn of events?

Blog fodder.

How about you? Superstitious? Believe in omens? Afraid of the devil?

  1. Lewis Says:

Afraid of the devil? Hmmm…. It seems to me that the Bible teaches me Satan has more power than I have on my own. So in a way, yes.

And even though God is on my side, the devil wins a battle now and then. Just like he won a battle against Peter (who was undoubtedly closer to Jesus than I am).

But in Silicon Valley, at least, I don’t think Satan usually tries to be scary. He is more into the “angel of light” and he looks like stock options, great salaries, leading edge technology, etc.

As for 666 showing up on your blog, here’s what I like about it — it reminded you that Satan is real, and it gave you an excuse to remind the rest of us.
