Growing Our Relationships

In addition to our worship time (described on our Visitors page), we have several other opportunities to grow in relationship with God and each other:

Our Sunday morning and Wednesday evening Bible classes for children and adults are focused on learning God's timeless truths presented to us through the Bible, and sharing what's on our hearts with God and each other through praying together. Those who would like to come early on Wednesday evening can also share a meal before class.

On Thursday we also have a men's meeting and a ladies' Bible class, which give opportunities to share, pray, and grow in our relationship with God in a more intimate setting.

Each fall we spend a weekend at Daybreak Camp to encourage spiritual growth.

Each Friday evening is a time for members and friends of all ages to meet at a member's home to talk, snack, and play together. Occasional potlucks are also good times for fellowship.

Sharing Our Faith

We feel the most important thing we can do on earth is to help others come into relationship with the creator of the universe through his son Jesus Christ. We share this good news not only with our families and friends, but also with others around the world.

We are sponsoring Darla Bennett, a missionary in Kampala, Uganda. In addition to helping with her monthly financial support, in May we use a giving calendar to focus on the needs of those in Africa, and give accordingly. The first Sunday in June is the Day of Prayer and Fasting, where we skip a meal and give the money, along with the giving calendar contributions and any other donations, to help needy folks that Darla works with in Kampala. Each summer our church sponsors a session at Sierra Bible Camp near Mt. Lassen, where campers can come close to God for a week through nature, Bible study, and other activities (see our Camp pages for more information).

Serving Our Community

We believe that our faith is to be expressed by blessing others. Our congregation is involved in serving the community in several ways:

UMPA is a non-profit corporation sponsored by local congregations, community groups, and individuals to serve homeless and very low income people. We assist UMPA by hosting Hotel de Zink (homeless program) in April, and donating to the Food Closet during July. To learn more about UMPA, see www.innvision.org/umpa.html.

On the second Sunday of each month, a group of church members meets at the Palo Alto Nursing Center to encourage the residents by singing, reading from the Bible, praying, and visiting with them.

During November we work with Palo Alto Housing Corporation to provide Thanksgiving dinners to needy families. We also participate in Souls-Not-Cards, where instead of sending Christmas cards to church members, we post Christmas greetings on a church bulletin board and give the money we saved to help needy families in the area.
